In response to Dublin lodgings posted by JenniferMiner:
Mike, when I think of accommodation in the rest of Ireland, a small sweet B&B is top of my list: is this possible to find in Dublin, too?
cheers

Thanks for the message. There are plenty of b&bs in Dublin, and one good website I found was this one:
http://www.dublintourist.com/directory/a...
It lists a lot, with pretty good information and a map so you can see exactly where they are.
I hope that helps

Well we didn't have a patchwork quilt, which sounds a nice homely touch, though we did have an elephant in the room above us, which seemed to get up very early in the morning, although it was quiet at night - one of the drawbacks of that kind of accommodation, but a minor drawback given all the plus points.
We peeked into some other rooms and they all looked slightly differet. Ours was huge, though you certainly couldn't have got an elephant in the shower!
regards

One of the reasons I travel is to meet local people, and unless you count the chamber maids, that just doesn't happen in hotels -- certainly not in the big ones. Staying in B&Bs and small inns is one of the best ways to meet locals who can tell you about the attractions that never make it to the guidebooks or into the tourist office brochures. And with the money you save, you can stay longer and see even more of them.
