A full refurbishment of the boutique St Andrews Golf Hotel includes a new restaurant overlooking the West Sands, near the most famous golf course in the world

Which golfer could not want to play at least one round of golf on the most famous golf course in the world, at St Andrews in Scotland? If you plan a vacation there, you can also dine in the new restaurant and bar, number forty, at the recently refurbished St Andrews Golf Hotel. The restaurant overlooks the West Sands, though the view will have to compete with some of the best food in St Andrews. The award of two AA rosettes to the restaurant at the St Andrews Golf Hotel confirms that.

ST ANDREWS GOLF HOTEL REDESIGN

The task of designing the interior refurbishment of St Andrews Golf Hotel went to Amy Schellenberg, whose job it was to retain the hotel's original period charm and elegance, while introducing a more contemporary look. One way this was achieved was by subtle use of modern lighting from CTO Lighting. The company specialises in modern, decorative lighting as used by hotels such as The Savoy and The Dorchester in London, also Harrods, the most famous department store in London, and London's top chef, Gordon Ramsay. The new furniture was from Porada and Brabin & Fitz, the wallpaper from Cole and Son, and Brunschwig & Fils, and decorative furniture from Julian Chichester.

ST ANDREWS GOLF HOTEL RESTAURANT

Many British diners rely on the AA Rosette Awards, to know that they are going to get the best of British food in a restaurant. The restaurant at the St Andrews Golf Hotel recently won a 2-rosette rating for the 9th year, a sign of consistency and high standards. Starters might include traditional Scottish smoked salmon or carpaccio of venison with wild rocket salad. As well as the best Scottish beef, main courses may include langoustine and mussel risotto or loin of spring lamb served with fresh spinach and thyme jus. For dessert diners can sample one of Scotland's finest products, its strawberries, in a warm crepe of local strawberries and caramel cream.

ST ANDREWS GOLF HOTEL ACCOMMODATION

The St Andrews Golf Hotel justifies its boutique hotel status by having just 22 ensuite bedrooms, with Molton Brown luxury toiletries, robes, TV, phone and tea- and coffee-making facilities. There are three Junior Suites which can accommodate up to five people, so ideal for families. There are seven Superior Bay View Rooms with twin or king-sized beds, and just one very popular single room with a Bay View, for the solo golf traveler, businessman or businesswoman. In addition there are also three 4-bedroom suites, for large golfing groups.
