The Vassaliki Nude Resort on Kefalonia: Greece’s Latest for Nudists

As career changes go, moving from being an investment banker in Britain to running a nudist resort in the Greek islands is quite a leap, by any stretch of the imagination. But in May 2007 Samantha Taylor and her husband Mark open Greece’s newest naturist resort when the first guests arrive at the Vassaliki Naturist Club.
Samantha Taylor was introduced to naturism by her boyfriend Mark, a chef, while she was still studying law at university. After graduating she started a successful career as an investment banker but decided to drop everything, so to speak, in order to open a nudist hotel in Greece.
The decision came after Mark and Samantha married in 2005, when they were both hankering after a career change, and also fancied a move abroad. Mark suggested they open a naturist hotel, and they went hunting and found the right property, not far from Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia, in the Greek Ionian islands. The nudist resort is only ten minutes away from Argostoli, an attractive Greek island harbour town, and just 15 minutes from Kefalonia airport. It is also just 2km from Avithos/Klismata beach, which is one of the many beaches around Kefalonia popular with naturists.
The Vassaliki Naturist Club has 11 apartments, a swimming pool and its own bar. The bar serves snacks, and has a dining area, but the apartments all have their own kitchens and are rented on a self-catering basis. There are plans to add a volleyball court and a boule court, and a play area for children with swings and a trampoline.
Vassaliki is not technically a clothing-optional resort, as being naked is regarded as both normal and expected throughout the resort between the hours of dawn and dusk. For guests who want to explore, there are also both naturist and textile excursion options on offer, including naturist boat trips and photography excursions, and there is an on-site masseuse offering a range of holistic and hot stone massages.
Kefalonia has been known for the last few years as the island where the best-selling book and subsequent film of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin was set. Mark and Samantha Taylor might see to it that from now on it is known as the island where the British investment banker decided to open a nudist hotel. Perhaps there’s a book in it?
