The Cowboy Junkies, Eddie Reader, Mary Chapin Carpenter, the McCalmans, Kate Rusby and Mike Harding join names including Rosanne Cash, Richie Havens, Clannad, Kathryn Williams, Idlewild and John Cale at the star-studded Celtic Connections music festival in Glasgow in 2007. The Festival runs from January 17 to February 4 at venues throughout Glasgow, including the ABC on Sauchiehall Street, the Tron Theatre, City Halls, the Glasgow Royal Concert hall and St Andrews in the Square.

Celtic Connections kicks off at 5pm on January 17 with a torchlight procession, followed by a charity concert, Hands Across the Water, which brings together many acts from both sides of the Atlantic. They're playing to raise money for child victims of the 2004 Tsunami in Asia.

Next night there are no less than eight concerts to choose from, but how do you pick between Mary Chapin Carpenter and Richie Havens, both playing on the same night? Tickets are bound to be in demand for the concert on February 2 when Roseanne Cash plays a tribute to her father Johnny Cash in her 'Black Cadillac' show, with support from Roddy Hart. As well as star concerts there are also interviews and open sessions, and invitations to try your hand at learning the small pipes, the accordion, the mandolin, the bhodran and everything from Scottish country dance to gospel music.

Themed nights cover music from the Orkneys, Lewis, the Scottish Highlands and from Nashville. It's a very impressive line-up, and tickers are going to be snapped up quickly. If you want to attend any of the concerts at Celtic Connections 2007, better get on to their website quick: www.celticconnections.com.
